Shichiin Jinja and the Shichiin Mori
In the world of “TagsTokyo,” Shichiin Shrine is a sacred place hidden within the city’s collective memory, dedicated to a deity who guards perception and connection. To help people rediscover how to experience life, sense the world, and rebuild bonds with others in the modern metropolis, this deity released seven Guardians known as the Shichiin Mori (守, guardians of perception and connection).
Originally symbols woven into everyday village life, the Shichiin Mori embody the ties between humans and nature, and among people themselves. Now, they appear throughout the city, guiding people to find once again the true meaning of life and the warmth of human connection amidst the noise and fragmentation.
Each Mori leads a specific domain of city life, reflecting a distinct mode of perception and a unique personality:
Mori | Symbolic Perception | Responsible Area | Personality & Guidance |
---|---|---|---|
Takama (Tengu) | Distant vision and overview | Lodging (Hotels and Inns) | Proud yet disciplined, guiding people to find a place they belong. |
Mitsune (Kappa) | Childlike spirit and flow | Parks and Nature | Playful and sensitive, encouraging people to feel the rhythms of change and nature. |
Komachi (Fox) | Judgment and contemplation | Cultural Facilities (Museums and Heritage Sites) | Calm and clever, leading people to discover deep meanings through reflection. |
Ponta (Tanuki) | Enjoyment and cheerful chaos | Dining (Restaurants and Cafés) | Cheerful and easygoing, inspiring people to savor the freedom and joy of sharing meals. |
Gonta (Daruma) | Focus and steadfastness | Experiences and Wellness | Silent and devoted, accompanying people to rediscover mindfulness through hands-on activities. |
Kiyomi (Maneki-neko) | Wishes and desires | Shops and Markets | Warm and welcoming, helping people reconnect with their desires and dreams. |
Akane (Oni) | Rhythm and passion | Entertainment Venues (Live Houses and Festivals) | Bold and straightforward, awakening the sense of life’s pulse and the energy of performance. |
The Shichiin Mori intervene gently in everyday life—not only nurturing individual perception but quietly weaving back the threads of human connection.
Through “TagsTokyo,” you are invited to follow the subtle light left by the Mori, exploring the rich textures of urban life and weaving your own shared stories along the way.
